Today I thought of the many new mothers in this ward. This has been quite a season for new babies and it is not over yet. There is nothing quite as wonderful as a new baby. I know, because today I welcomed the 24th baby into my family. Five children and now 19 grandchildren. I never get over the thrill of it. I remember when my first one was born. I shared a room with a mother who had just had her 7th boy. But she was so excited. Every bit as excited as I was with my first. I wondered how this could be. I thought by now surely a new baby would be "old hat", especially a 7th boy! She cooed over him, relishing every little detail of his tiny and perfect body. I really didn't understand until more of my own babies began to come. And for some reason, each one seemed to be more of a miracle. Today, as I cooed over this beautiful and perfect little newborn, I was filled with such joy! It never gets old, but rather gets better and better! The absolute miracle of it escapes me, but the gift of life and family once again burrows into my soul. It is one more evidence of the genius of the Lord -- mothers, fathers, children -- blended into a family. What a plan!

Choir Message

We will meet Sundays at 12:20 in the Chapel for the Summer. Please come a few minutes early and join your voice with others as we worship in song. We need your voice, particularly male voices, to swell our choir and reverence our Lord and Savior.

Missionary Work

Our sincere appreciation to Spencer for his service as our Ward Mission Leader. He leaves behind big shoes to fill (literally) but as the new ward missionaries, we will do our best.  Elder De Lora returned home this week, so we will be getting a new full time missionary soon and we look forward to meeting him and working
together.
During the past month we've spent several evenings "tracting" and have met some wonderful people. If you see us "out and about" please feel free to "honk and wave" just like we were official full time missionaries. We are finishing up some new member discussions with a recently baptized sister and find great joy in teaching the gospel to people who are just beginning to appreciate all that it has to offer.

Just to show you how enthusiastic we are, Here is a quote from a recent e-mail from Scott S., about one of his experiences while contacting a less active member. "She answered the phone I explained who I was and she said, 'We are not active and don’t have the desire for the foreseeable future to become activated but thanks for your efforts.' It was the nicest rejection I have ever had." Now who wouldn't love a companion like that? Such optimism!

We love the gospel and are enthusiastic to share it with anyone you think might be ready. We encourage you to prayerfully consider any of your neighbors who might enjoy a visit from us along with the full time missionaries. We promise to put our best foot forward as we strive to fulfill the third and most rewarding mission of the church (in our opinion), proclaim the gospel.

Temple Project

Well, can you believe it? Our Nine Months Temple Project has come to a conclusion with our June 9, 2010 Day of Dedication in the Temple.  What a day it was. We came away physically tired, but spiritually exhalted. It was truly a day when we felt somewhat as did the people of Enoch when it
was said:
"And the Lord called his people Zion, because they were of one heart and one mind, and dwelt in righteousness; and there was no poor among them." Moses 7:18

Many experienced choice and wonderful things that day, and during the preceeding nine months.  The Spirit of the Lord was so evident among us. We now hope that each person has taken time to reflect and write down their feelings and experiences, and that this period of time we have shared will give us the motivation to be a truly Temple loving and Temple Worshipping people.  
 
A booklet of experiences from our preparations for and actual Day of Dedication is being put together.  If you would be so kind as to share your experiences, please write an email or letter and give it to a member of the Relief Society Presidency by Sunday.

Young Women's Message

The Young Women have been busy! They have done baptisms at the Salt Lake Temple, participated
in a gardening service project at Temple Square and gone up Millcreek Canyon with the Young Men to
roast hotdogs and eat lots of smores! They also participated in the ward Spring Sing! We have great
group of girls who have multiple talents and interests. They are busy with school projects, choir concerts, dance performances and band concerts too!  Kaisa, Sierra and Karliann all graduated from Seminary with four year certificates! We will miss them as they head to college, they are such good examples! In June we will welcome Chrissy to the Beehive Class and Sarah will turn 14 and move to the Mia Maid class. We
will also be attending Heber Valley Girls Camp for five days...JoAnn is busy planning and preparing to help make this a great experience. We are all looking forward to spending the day at the Temple and participating in our Ward's Day of Dedication! We really want to thank Pres. and Sister Walker for all their help making this possible!

Sunday School Message

Here in June, we find our special Temple Principals class and ward Temple Day of Dedication Project have come to fantastically successful fruition. As a Sunday School Presidency, we wish to express our gratitude to Brother and Sister Walker for the time and energy, dedication and preparation that went into make this successful.
It is our hope and prayer that our ward members can continue the momentum in setting temple attendance goals and successfully meeting them. We propose this Temple Day of Dedication become an annual event for the Grandview 1st Ward.  As part of the Sunday School program, we have begun a Marriage and Family Relations class to segue from the Temple Principals class. This class lasts 16 weeks and all are welcome to attend. Soon, we will also be starting the “Teaching the Gospel” course to run during the Sunday School hour. This 12 week course should be taken by all church members 18 years and older, but the class size is
very limited. There will be several of these classes held throughout the year.  As I was set apart for the calling of Sunday School President, the inspired member of the bishopric blessed me with a reminder that all church
members are ‘teachers as much as students’. It is our hope that we can attend class with the desire to learn and willingness to participate in class. We are taught by church leadership that reading the class material beforehand is the key to a fuller, richer experience in gospel learning. Although we all are at different places in our lives this should be a goal for everyone to aspire to.

Elders Quorum Message

We had a great Guys Night Out event on May 21st where we held a 'no-holds-barred' Pinewood Derby and a great BBQ. The Elders, High Priests, and YM displayed their engineering skills and added fans, CO2 cartridges, compressed air, bars of silver and other inventions to propel their cars down the track faster than the usual regulation would allow. One couldn't help buy reflect on the genius being used to create these cars, if properly directed, couldn't solve all the world's problems. We'll maybe work on that next year.

Relief Society Message

We have been having so much fun in Relief Society with our monthly themes to get us ready for our temple "Day of Dedication" on June 9th. We hope that each of you have taken the time to really look at your individual lives and evaluate those areas that you could maybe improve upon. We are looking forward to being in the temple with all of you, and hope that you will all feel the blessings of sacrificing to be in His Holy Temple. As usual, we have had to make a lot of changes in the Relief Society. We are so grateful to those sisters who have served faithfully. We will miss the wonderful lessons that Chris would teach, the talents of Linda E, who was our pianist, Tonya watching out for all of us, and providing the sisters with compassionate service, and Brooke as a visiting teaching supervisor. We would like to welcome the following sisters and look forward having them with us each Sunday. Tobi as our new Compassionate Service Leader, Jamie as a Sunday teacher, Becky as the pianist, and as District Supervisors for visiting teaching; Karen L., Sue N., and Carol T.

High Priests Message

"NEW FAMILY SEARCH"
For years we have been encouraged to:

1. Complete our "Four Generation Family Group Sheets" and submit to the Church Family History Center.


2. Do additional research on our family lines and extend them as far as possible, and submit as above.

3. Perform Temple Ordinance work where not previously done.

“New Family Search" was developed to combine all the above records and others into one file, eliminate duplicate submissions to the Temple, and to simplify how we submit names to the Temple for performance of Ordinance work.

Our primary goal for 2010 is to "CLEAN UP THE FILES AND RECORDS" that have been
combined in "New Family Search". There may be many duplicates in the combined files, and our
current goal is to review, combine, add missing information, correct, and connect family lines that are in the system but not necessarily tied to your family tree. A wonderful by product is to harvest any of our ancestry whose Temple Ordinance work has not been completed. We are hoping many of these names can be taken to the Temple on our Ward Temple day on June 9th. We will continue this "Take an Ancestor to the Temple" throughout the year. We have established a Ward Family History Consulting Committee made up of trained and experienced fellow Ward Members, who will come to your home and "One on One" help you get into the "New Family Search" to do as described above. This cleanup assist program will remain our
goal for 2010. We will assess our progress as the year matures. Some Research will be part of this phase also.

"RESEARCH" to continue to extend our family lines will then become our emphasis in the future. We are continuing our emphasis on the "INDEXING" program under the direction of Dale K. and invite your participation in this very meaningful program. Thank you for the opportunity to work with our fellow Ward members in these great programs.

Bishopric Message

The younger brother chased his sister down the hall. For once, he wanted to get out the door of the house and then to the car before his bigger sister. The sister could see that her little brother had

the jump on her. She knew she had to hurry to make up the lost ground. As they cleared the front door of the house, the sister knew that her brother was going to beat her to the car unless she did something to stall his momentum. Without giving it a second thought, she kicked her leg out and tripped her brother. His feet lost their contact with the ground and his body went airborne. Unfortunately that airborne state did not last for long and he came to a skidding halt on the grass. Before he even knew if he was physically hurt or not, he knew that he had been wronged and he gave a horrible cry of anger and frustration. The brought the father running from inside. The sister knew immediately that she was in trouble and so she began apologizing like crazy to her brother who was still lying on the ground. Just as his sister began

apologizing, the brother began to feel sharp pain in his elbow. He was in no mood to receive his sister's words of apology and angrily got himself to his feet The father comforted his son and questioned his daughter about what had happened. As the three of them discussed the situation, the daughter realized that her apology had not been sincere because it had been offered simply to avoid getting in trouble. She again told her brother that she was sorry and gently helped him into the house to care for his sore elbow. The brother, with the incredible forgiveness of a child, quickly and totally forgave his sister and soon they were laughing as they once again took off to race to the car.

Why do we do, say, and think, the things we do, say, and think? What is our motive? What is our intent? What desire is at the heart of our thoughts, words, and actions? A wise teacher in our midst once said that virtue is doing good for goodness sake. Does goodness really drive our good actions and words? We know our motives and inner-most thoughts are important to the Savior. Just as He discerned the history of the Samaritan woman at the well or the goodness of the chief publican Zacchaeus, so He knows our true motives and the desires of our hearts. Let us purify our motives and seek to do good for goodness sake. Paraphrasing section 121 of the Doctrine and Covenants, let our bowels also be full of charity towards all men, and to the household of faith, and let virtue garnish our thoughts unceasingly. If we do this, then shall our confidence wax strong in the presence of God; and the doctrine of the priesthood shall distill upon our souls as the dews from heaven, and the Holy Ghost shall be our constant companion.

2nd Annual Grandview Sunday "Farmers' Market"

Calling all Grandview gardeners!  Now that summer is finally here, the 2nd Annual Grandview Sunday "Farmers' Market" will begin whenever you are ready. 

What: Bring any excess produce from your garden that you are willing to share with members of the ward. 

When: Right after the Sunday block of meetings.  We will begin our "farmers' market" as soon as any Grandview gardener's produce is ready to share.

How to participate:  If you have produce, bring it to church and leave it on the Relief Society table.  ANYONE is welcome to come and take produce after the meetings are over.

Day of Dedication - Memory Book

For many of the members of the Grandview 1st Ward, the temple project, which covered a 9 month period and culminated in a full Day of Dedication will forever be remembered as a sacred highlight in our lives.  As a follow up to that Day of Dedication in the temple - June 9, 2010, we are compiling a booklet with testimonies of all of the ward members.  All of those who attended, all of those who did not, all of those who participated in our lead up to the Day of Dedication, etc. Our goal is to get a submission from every member of the ward - including the primary children.  We invite you to write about your feelings about the Temple, write about your experiences preparing to go to the Temple, attending the Day of Dedication, specific experiences, something you learned or things you observed.  This booklet will serve as a sacred reminder of the 9 months of preparation and the day we shared in the House of the Lord.  We hope this will be a constant reminder of your experience and the blessings that come from temple worship.

Please take a few minutes and write down your feelings and thoughts.  You may submit them in written form or by email to any member of the Relief Society presidency.
