Back to School

Hitting the books isn't just for kids.

King Solomon said: "With all thy getting get understanding." (Prov. 4:7)
President Gordon B. Hinckley stated: "There can be no doubt, none whatever, that education pays."

We are fortunate to live near so many esteemed places of higher learning and most universities and colleges having continuing education programs.

Brigham Young University offers on-line Independent Study at www.byu.edu.  You can take personal enrichment courses on subjects ranging from family history to gardening.  Several of their on-line courses are free. (1-800-9148931)

The University of Utah (www.utah.edu) has continuing education classes at their main campus and other satellite campuses.  Their fall schedule includes classes you can take once a week like "Be a Bike Commuter" and "Balanced Eating for Weight Loss."  (801-581-6461)

Salt Lake Community College (www.slcc.edu) is great for anyone investigating a career change.

Salt Lake School District (www.slc.k12.ut.us) has an affordable community education program for both children and adults.  Their fall catalogue is now offering classes at Highland High School in art, languages, photography, computers, belly dancing and cake decorating. (801-481-4891)

Granite School District's Granite Peaks program (http://www.granitepeaks.org/) also offers affordable community education programs for both children and adults.  Many of the classes are offered at Olympus High School as well as other schools in the Granite district.

lds.org will guide you to the many local institute classes that are available.

Another learning resource that was mentioned last night was The Power of Moms at http://powerofmoms.com/  This website offers many wonderful ideas on how to  "grow ourselves, build each other, shaping the future."  Tennille mentioned the idea of a Learning Circle.   A Learning Circle is part girls night out, part bookclub, part support group, part motherhood course.  Click on the Link to see all the details.
