Grace Howell Mackay 6/811926 -3/8/2010
Grace Howell Mackay was reunited with her eternal loving companion, passing away Monday, March 8, 2010 with family by her bedside in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Grace Mackay was born June 8, 1926 to Rolla Fern and Bessie Sowby Howell in Garfield, Utah. She graduated from South High School in Salt Lake City. She served as a missionary for the Church ofJesus Christ ofLatter-day Saints in the Spanish American Mission from 1948-1950.
She married Theron Lambert Mackay March 18, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple. They later moved to California, where they raised 6 children: 4 sons, 2 daughters. They also served as parents to Indian Placement Students.
She was active her entire life in the LDS Church; serving in all organizations with various callings. She especially loved working in Cub Scouting, where she taught hundreds ofboys and their adult leaders, over the decades.
Her most important priority was her family. She was generous in spending her time with them and showing her support by atterlding events and volunteering for her children's teams.
Her legacy offaith and missionary work is exemplified by having five children and one foster daughter serve as missionaries. Grace and Theron served a mission together in the Ivory Coast Abidjan Mission from 1991 -1993. So far three grandsons have served missions. She was an active member ofthe Grandview Camp, Salt Lake Canyon Trails Company, Daughters ofthe Utah Pioneers.
She is survived by her 6 children: Hyrum John (Barbara Boyack); Elizabeth; Theron Reed (Geny Stoddard); David Rollo (Laurie Smith); Richard Alan (Wendy Clemons); Katherine (Michael Tolman); 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; brother, Donald (Lucille Hutcheon) Howell and sister, Melba Holmes. She also leaves behind many who call her "Grandma" or friend. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband and brother-in-law, Dee Holmes.
Her love = family, her life = service to others, her legacy = her testimony ofand faith in the Savior to guide us in helping others.
Funeral services will be held, Saturday, March 13,2010, 10:00 a.m. at the Grandview 1 st Ward, 2930 South 2000 East, Salt Lake City, Utah. A viewing will be held Friday, March 12,2010 at the Cannon Mortuary, 2460 E. Bengal Blvd. (7600 S.) from 6:00 to
7:30 p.m. and the day ofthe service at the church from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. Interment Salt Lake City Cemetery.
